Our studio has completed two rounds of educational materials on the danger of washing chicken. The first set of cooking videos and photo novelas. The second campaign added animations which address the key misconceptions of chicken washing, and offers a social media campaign.

Infotoons – Food Safety

Learn the science behind food safety, with real examples, to foster a food safety culture among agricultural producers and processors, especially those selling directly to consumers. In collaboration with Maine Cooperative Extension, its focus is on regional foods from Maine, such as wild blueberries and seaweed.

Fresh and Sometimes Dirty

Fresh produce can sometimes be dirty. It’s important to wash it, no matter where you get it. These short, humorous videos are aimed at consumers who shop at Farmers’ Markets and suitable for sharing on social media.

Don't Be Gross

This in-school project raises awareness among teens about food safety actions they take each day that are unsafe and about positive steps they can take to prevent illness.

Produce Safety Matters

Growers, packing centers, and retailers rely on one another to prevent contamination and keep consumers safe. Four animations illustrate how contamination can spread from field to table and suggest ways to avoid this.

Because I Care, I Wash My Hands

Suited for child care centers, this curriculum is full of songs, activities, and experiments to help children understand why and how handwashing keeps people healthy. It includes the viral video “Because I Care Lullaby,” which has been viewed 97 million times.

Chinese is the third most commonly spoken language in U.S. foodservice operations. In the U.S., many food safety educators only speak English and so it ca be difficult to effectively train Chinese speaking workers. La Vida de Matilde (Spanish)

This short drama follows Matilde over several weeks as she opens her own home childcare. She becomes aware of food safety issues and learns how to combat BAC, the bacteria food may contain if it is not properly prepared or handled.

Although raw chicken and turkey can carry bacteria on its surfaces, research shows that washing raw poultry under running water is a bad idea. This website includes fotonovelas, mini-dramas, recipes, and videos to help spread the message. An animation shows how bacteria can contaminate surfaces and other foods.

All About Microgreens

Microgreens share similar anatomy and nutritional benefits to sprouts, but carry a much lower risk of foodborne illness. This campaign educates consumers and home-growers about the differences between sprouts and microgreens, and promotes the practice of washing microgreens, which research suggests is the safest way to eat them. Animated videos show the best sanitation practices.

Science Pirates: The Curse of Brownbeard

Science Pirates uses games, songs, and scientific experiments to give youth a better understanding of the "whys" behind good food safety practices based on national science standards. The player helps the desperate crew solve and 'break' the "The Curse of Brownbeard."
